Message from the President Elect
January 1, 2021
Dear NC ASHRM Colleagues,
The NC ASHRM Board of Directors wishes you a Happy New Year. The Corona virus pandemic of 2020 has provided challenges for all of us, and we are hopeful that the provision of a vaccine will finally bring an end to the pandemic and the restrictions that it has created. But until that happens, we will all continue to face challenges related to how we work and live our lives, including continued widespread travel restrictions. In consideration of these continued restrictions, the safety of our membership and the time needed for widespread vaccination and immunity to occur, the Board made the difficult decision to cancel the Spring Conference for 2021. We remain hopeful that a Fall Conference may be possible, but we will not be able to make a thoughtful and informed decision until mid-2021.
We have also struggled with considerations related to membership dues and renewal for 2021. We looked to our national organization"s, ASHRM, example. Consideration was given to our affiliation requirements and our obligation to update our membership annually, and to assure that we all continue to meet the membership requirements of our chapter. After careful review of all these factors, we will maintain our dues at their current level; however, we will extend our membership renewal date, for 2021, to February 28th. We appreciate that your renewal reminder is coming late in the year, and therefore, the renewal date is being extended to provide additional time for our membership to provide their renewal payment. After February 28th, if your membership dues are not received, access to the website will be discontinued until your dues have been received.
Although we will be unable to host a Spring Conference, it is our continued desire to provide value for your continued investment in the chapter. In affiliation with our generous sponsors and members, NC ASHRM was able to offer six complimentary webinars, which provided a total of 518 complimentary contact hours provided to our members. Our goal is to increase these complimentary offerings in 2021 to meet our mission to support your educational needs. If you are interested in providing a webinar in 2021, please contact Katrina Jackson at Katrina.firstname.lastname@example.org or Janna Bennett at email@example.com.
Until we can safely come together, we will continue to make every effort to support our membership, and we look forward to a time that we can come together again and enjoy the fellowship of this wonderful chapter.
Warm Wishes for a Safe and Happy New Year!
Sheila Elliott, NC ASHRM President

Title of Event: Understanding the Malpractice Claims Landscape Post-COVID-19
Description: The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically altered the way physicians and healthcare professionals practice medicine, introducing new challenges that require updated practices, policies, and treatments. Similarly, we can expect a dramatic shift in the way that malpractice claims are handled as the pandemic influences the severity and number of claims filed, how trials are conducted, gross negligence standards, and inevitable plaintiff challenges to immunity. It’s important for physicians and practice leaders to be prepared for this new malpractice claims landscape with knowledge and insight to protect themselves and their businesses from undue
